The Taliban's seizure of Kabul threw locals into panic as they attempted to flee the country, with horrific scenes of a stampede emerging from the local airport as people tried even to cling to planes taking off the runway.
Karimi on Aug. 15 called on the international community to raise their voices, stressing the horrors that women and children would suffer under Taliban rule.

The Turkish Embassy, along with the Slovak Film and TV Academy, the Slovakian government and Ukraine, helped Karimi escape the country, she wrote in a tweet, adding that she's "alive and safe."
