Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Deniz Yavuzyılmaz has said 11 Turkish companies with close links to the government participated in closed tenders in 81 percent of the projects they won between 2005 and 2022.

These companies were, therefore, “invited” to the tenders instead of being invited via an open tender method.

Yavuzyılmaz examined the tender processes and projects of the last 17 years for the government-linked companies Limak, Kolin, Cengiz, Kalyon, IC İçtaş, Makyol, Bayburt Group, YDA, Çelikler, Yapı ve Yapı İnşaat, and Rönesans, Hüseyin Şimşek from the daily BirGün reported on June 26.

Yavuzyılmaz examined 444 tenders won by these companies that grew under the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

“The companies won only 19 percent of their projects through open tenders between 2005 and 2022. The rate of closed tenders, where only certain bidders can participate by invitation, is 81 percent. A tender procedure that should have been an exception is now generally applied for these companies and there is a huge public loss,” Yavuzyılmaz stated.
