Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's personal security detail cost the country a total of 155.4 million liras in the first four months of 2022, corresponding to approximately 39 million liras a month and 1.3 million liras a day, daily Birgün reported.

On the other hand, data from the Interior Ministry's Security General Directorate revealed that the spending for parliament safety measured at almost one-third of the president's with 58.2 million liras for the period of January-April 2022.

The presidential security budget also surpassed those of the police's narcotics department and the department for organized crime.

The government has been for years refusing to release the number of security detail assigned to Erdoğan. The opposition has several times submitted parliamentary motions addressing this question, but was unable to get an answer. Vice President Fuat Oktay had once said “there is a sufficient number of personnel” in one of his answers.
