32 women killed by men in Turkey in July

Thirty two women were killed by men during the month of July in Turkey, according to a report from the Bianet news portal.
Twenty four women were killed during July of last year. During the tenure of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), femicides have more than doubled within the past decade.
There has been mass outrage from women in Turkey following the recent gruesome killing of 27-year-old Pınar Gültekin, as well as due to the proposition by Islamists from both pro-government and opposition circles to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention, which is the Council of Europe’s convention on preventing and combating violence against women and children.
Fifty nine percent of the women killed by men in July were murdered by their current or ex-husbands, according to the report.
Three children were killed last month, two by the fathers of the children, and one by a group of men. One of the children was a Syrian refugee. One of the women killed was of Mongolian origin while another was from Afghanistan.
