56 people quarantined in northern Ordu over contact with COVID-19 Delta variant patient

Some 56 people were placed in quarantine in the Black Sea province of Ordu after they were determined to have come into contact with a patient infected with the Delta variant of the coronavirus, Doğan news agency reported on June 25.

Some 56 people were placed in quarantine in Turkey's northern province of Ordu after they were determined to have come into contact with a patient infected with the Delta variant of the coronavirus, Doğan news agency reported on June 25. 

Turkish Health Ministry officials detected that a woman living in Ordu's Ünye district had the Delta variant. Afterwards, contact tracing (filiation) teams determined that the woman had come into contact with 56 people, putting them all under quarantine in their houses.

On June 23, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said that a total of 134 cases of the Delta variant have been so far detected in the country.

Anka News Agency reported on June 24 that two advisers in Turkish parliament had contracted the highly contagious variant. 

First identified in India, Delta is becoming the globally dominant version of the coronavirus, according to the World Health Organization.
