70 million passengers use airports in Istanbul in first seven months of 2024

Some 69.3 million passengers used airports in Turkey’s megacity Istanbul in the first seven months of 2024, with a 5.9 million increase from the same period last year.

The number of passengers using Istanbul airports increased by 5.9 million in the first seven months of 2024 compared to the same period last year, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

Accordingly, some 69.3 million passengers used Istanbul airports in this period, whereas this figure was 63.4 million in the same period last year, the data from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority revealed.

45.7 million of these passengers used Istanbul airport, with 35.8 million of them using international routes.

While domestic passengers at Istanbul Airport decreased by four percent, international passengers increased by nine percent compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, 23.6 million passengers used Sabiha Gökçen Airport, with 12.3 million of them using international routes.

Accordingly, passenger numbers increased by 18 percent on domestic routes and 14 percent on international routes at Sabiha Gökçen Airport compared to the same period last year.

The total number of flights at Istanbul Airport was 299,662, with 230,689 of them being international.

A total of 139,226 flights were organized at Sabiha Gökçen Airport.

During this period, 9,495 domestic flights, and 6,529 international flights were operated at mostly out-of-use Atatürk Airport.
