700-year-old dagger found in Diyarbakır
A 700-year-old dagger was recovered form a vehicle Turkey's Gendarmerie stopped on the highway in Diyarbakır. An expert from the Diyarbakır Museums' Directorate noted that the 54 cm-long dagger dated back to the 14th century.
On January 1st, Turkey's Gendarmerie found a 14th-century dagger in a vehicle it stopped on the highway in the southeastern city of Diyarbakır.
The Diyarbakır Governor Office said that the dagger, along with its case, was recovered from a pocket at the back of the driver's seat.
An expert from the Diyarbakır Museum Directorate noted that the 54 centimeter-long dagger dated back to the 14th century.
An engraving on the dagger read, in Ottoman Turkish, "Don't bend the knee to anyone for your life, don't bend the knee to anyone for earthly worries."
The dagger was handed to the Diyarbakır Museums Directorate. Criminal proceedings have been brought against the driver of the vehicle.
