The access to Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu's tweet that called LGBT individuals "perverted" was banned in France.
"Four LGBT perverts were detained for disrespecting Kaaba at Boğaziçi University," Soylu tweeted early on Jan. 30, referring to the detention of four students after an art exhibition at the university that included a picture of Kaaba - a holy site for Muslims - featuring LGBT flags.
As Twitter users urged people to report Soylu's tweet to get it banned in Turkey, it was banned in France.
"This tweet has been withheld in France based on local laws," read a statement from Twitter.
Two Boğaziçi University students were arrested and two others were placed under house arrest for "insulting religious values" on Jan. 30, as protests against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's rector appointment have been ongoing for four weeks.
