Turkish gov't seeks to strip main opposition MP of parliamentary immunity after criticizing Erdoğan

During the AKP's Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting, high-level party officials voiced their discontent of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's decision to move weekly parliamentary group meetings to Wednesdays from Tuesdays, daily Cumhuriyet reported on March 8.

All parties hold their parliamentary group meetings on Tuesdays, with the AKP as the only exception. Erdoğan's decision to change the day is perceived to be a way to respond to criticisms of main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

According to the daily, AKP officials said that the decision must be reversed since "Kılıçdaroğlu's remarks can be responded to on the same day."

They also reportedly said that the times of the meetings on Tuesdays can be rearranged via drawing lots.
