In a school in the Fatih district of Istanbul, ruling Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) election observers on May 14 battered a member of the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP).

The AKP’s officials wanted to enter the voting booth with the voters, and other officials on duty in the polling station objected to them, according to online news outlet İleri Haber. The TİP member who filed a report on the issue was threatened and then beaten by the AKP members.

According to the election law in Turkey, no one can enter the voting booth other than the voters themselves if there is no legal document regarding the custody of the elderly and disabled.

Political parties have a right to send observers to the polling stations yet, no one is allowed to impact voters' preferences.
