“During a file analysis conducted on April 29, 2021, it was determined that 16 gold coins were not in their places and for the necessary procedures to be launched in line with the rules, a report was prepared by the museum experts on April 30, 2021 and the Culture and Tourism Ministry was notified,” the governor's office said.

The governor's office also said that the gold coins in question were seized during a police operation against historical artifact smugglers in 2017.

Following a report prepared by the Culture and Tourism Ministry inspectors, prosecutors will take over the case, reports also said.
