At least 177 workers die in workplace during January in Turkey

At least 177 workers were killed in workplace accidents during January in Turkey, according to the Assembly for Worker Health and Safety’s (İSİG) latest report.

At least 177 workers have lost their lives in workplace accidents in the first month of 2025, Turkey’s health and safety labour watch (İSİG) on Feb. 6 reported in its latest “Workplace Homicide Report.”

According to the report, five child workers aged 15-17 were killed in workplace accidents. Among the 177 workers who lost their lives, 34 were aged 18-29, 67 were aged 30-49, 53 were aged 50-64, and nine were 65 and over. The ages of nine workers remained unknown.

13 of these workers were migrant workers and 15 were women.

The report indicated that the construction and road sector had the highest number of fatalities with 43 deaths. In addition, 28 deaths were in the transportation sector and 23 in the agriculture and forestry sector.

29 percent of the deaths were caused by traffic accidents, 14 percent by crushing and 13 percent by falling from a height.

According to the report, the province with the highest number of workplace deaths in January was Istanbul with 30 workers.
