A white railroad car that the Turkish Republic's founder rode and was displayed in front of the İzmir Train Terminal was removed in the middle of the night, daily Sözcü reported on August 21.

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's white train car had been displayed in front of the terminal for 13 years and was open for visitors to tour.

Turkish State Railways (TCDD) officials said that the car needed to be moved because it was badly affected by weather conditions.

The decision for the move had been made earlier than the move, and was protested by the Atatürkist Thought Society (ADD).

ADD members also filmed the car's midnight move, where officials were seen taking it away although some observers can be heard protesting it by applause.
