An aide of former ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was sentenced to prison in Turkey, Deutsche Welle's Turkish service reported on Dec. 22.

Ahmed Süleyman İbni Muhammed was handed eight years and four months in prison after a deduction of his sentence over regret was implemented.

Muhammed was caught in Turkey on April 28 and was being tried over "forming and leading an armed terrorist organization" and "forgery of official documents." He was facing up to 27.5 years in prison.

During the trial on Dec. 22, Muhammed said that he didn't commit a crime against Turkey.

"I didn't commit any crime in Turkey. Because of the disease in my foot, I can't live in prison conditions," Muhammed said.

"I have nine children. I'm trying to help them by working like this. I've been under arrest for eight months and I couldn't get any news from my family," he added.

The jihadist also said that he is a doctor and would like to be useful for Turkey.

The court handed eight years and four months in prison over "leading an armed terrorist organization" and acquitted him of "forgery of official documents."
