Boğaziçi University's trustee management cancels mass graduation ceremony for 3 years in a row
Wanting to keep clear of protests by students, Boğaziçi University’s trustee management has cancelled this year’s collective graduation ceremony as well.

Boğaziçi University’s trustee management has announced that the university will not hold a collective graduation ceremony this year, as has been the case for 2021 and 2022.
In an e-mail sent to students, the university said that departments will hold their diploma award ceremonies separately between July 5-7 in different salons.
Students have reacted against this decision, recalling the alternative graduation ceremonies they have held in the past two years.
The school management is keeping clear of mass graduation ceremonies since it does not want to face protests by students.
For example, after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was given authority to directly appoint rectors without having to consider the preferences of academics, students staged a protest against the then-rector at the 2017 graduation ceremony.
As the-then appointed rector Prof. Mehmed Özkan was delivering a speech in the ceremony on June 21, 2017, students turned their backs on him and started blowing whistles and clapping to protest his appointment to the post.
