Republican People’s Party (CHP) Şanlıurfa parliamentarian candidate Mahmut Tanal on May 8 announced that bullets were thrown into the party’s election office in the eastern province “for the purpose of threatening and browbeating” the opposition.
In a tweet, Tanal said that also banners featuring CHP leader and Nation Alliance’s presidential candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as well as vice presidential candidates Ekrem İmamoğlu and Mansur Yavaş had been torn apart.
“You (referring to the rulership) take your powers from provocateurs and barons. We on the other hand take our power from God and nation. Bring it on! We are not scared of you, we will be always again at the field! The CHP will write history in Şanlıurfa!” he said, sharing images of the bullets inside the office and damaged banners.
Nationalist ATA Alliance’s election bus attacked in Diyarbakır
Meanwhile, a group of other unidentified assailants have attacked the election bus of the right-wing nationalist ATA (Ancestral) Alliance with stones in the eastern Diyarbakır province’s Silvan district. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
Only the driver and his son were on the bus as the attack occurred early on May 8. The bus incurred a damage worth 50,000 liras. The bus driver said that the attack occurred as the bus was on its way from Silvan to Diyarbakır center and that he had not seen who threw the stones.
ATA Alliance’s presidential candidate Sinan Oğan shared the images of the attacked bus on his social media account.
The attack came shortly after another attack targeting Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu’s election bus in the eastern Erzurumprovince. Some 17 people have been injured due to the attack.
