A Turkish soldier and three local Syrian security personnel were killed in a car bomb attack in Ras al-Ayn in northern Syria, the governor's office of Turkey's southeastern Şanlıurfa province said on March 12.

Ten others, including seven civilians, were injured in the attack, according to the governor's office.

The attack took place as Turkish forces were conducting a roadside security check.

The governor's office said that the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) was responsible for the attack. Turkey considers the YPG as a terrorist organization due to its links with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

The governor's office also said that attack occurred within the area of Turkey's "Operation Peace Spring."

Turkey launched an offensive into northeast Syria targeting the YPG that controlled the region in October of last year -- dubbed "Operation Peace Spring." The Turkish forces captured the areas between Syrian border towns of Ras al-Ayn and Tel Abyad.
