Cargo company fires employee for exposing address of woman who was detained for improper mask use

Turkish cargo company Yurtiçi Kargo has announced that it terminated the labor contract of one of its employees for exposing the contact details of a woman who was last week violently detained for improper mask use. The company said that the employee could not in fact access the woman's data, but pretended to do so by creating a fake address on the firm's internal system.

Turkish cargo company Yurtiçi Kargo has announced that it fired one of its employees for exposing the address of a woman who was last week violently detained by the police for improper mask use.

The company said that the address that was shared on social media was not the real address of the young woman as the employee had not reached any of the data of Rana Batı on the firm's internal system.

“It has been determined that the person [employee] could have not have reached any data on Rana Batı on the relevant inquiry display and instead created a fake profile named Rana Batı. The personnel has admitted that he/she has created a perception as he/she reached the data with this method,” the company said in a statement on Aug. 24.

Yurtiçi Kargo announced that not only was the relevant employee fired but also the company would file a criminal lawsuit regarding the issue.

Two police officers battered and detained Rana Batı for “not wearing her mask properly” in Istanbul’s Kadıköy on Aug. 19.

The footage of the incident showed two officers dragging and battering Batı, while those nearby shout for them to let go.

Twodays after the incident, the police officers were suspended from dutyamid public outcry. But, just a day later, the officers werereinstated back to their jobs with the instructions of InteriorMinister Süleyman Soylu.
