CHP congratulates HDP's 8th foundation anniversary

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on Oct. 18 congratulated the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) for the eighth anniversary of its foundation.

Kılıçdaroğlu and İmamoğlu, who is also from the CHP, sent congratulatory messages to the party's anniversary celebration event in Istanbul.

"I wish you success in your works that will contribute to the democracy in our country in these days that our longing for justice keeps on increasing," Kılıçdaroğlu said in a written message addressed to HDP co-chairs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar.

İmamoğlu also sent a written message.

"I thank your party members once again for presenting their wills for democracy against injustice and unlawfulness in the journey that we began for a fairer and more equal Istanbul," the mayor said.

İmamoğlu won the June 23, 2019 local elections in a major defeat to the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) via getting the votes of both the CHP and HDP supporters.

"I underline once again that we will never give up on building peace and fraternity," İmamoğlu said.
