Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on Dec. 23 hung up a framed one-lira coin that he won in a slander suit against the daily Sabah, who reported that the party chair had terrorist ties.

The daily Sabah reported that Kılıçdaroğlu had ties to U.S.-based Islamic cleric Fethullah Gülen, widely believed to have masterminded the July 15, 2016 failed coup attempt. The Gülen movement is officially called the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ).

"The one-lira emotional damage collected from daily Sabah who slandered Kılıçdaroğlu as a FETÖ member," reads the plaque gifted to the CHP leader.

"A ruling like a slap in the face to the false accusers," CHP's official Twitter account tweeted on Dec. 23, along with a video of attorney Murat Ergün presenting Kılıçdaroğlu with the framed one-lira coin.

"By the way, the court ruling also paid me one Turkish Lira. The most meaningful money I've had in my life..." the attorney said.

Meanwhile, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan represents the plaintiff in a two-million lira lawsuit against Kılıçdaroğlu for the latter's revelations of Erdoğan's assets.
