CHP’s symbol Şero the cat dies at 20, buried at party headquarters

Şero, a legendary cat who had been living at the headquarters of the Turkish main opposition CHP, died at 20 while receiving treatment. Şero was buried in the garden of the CHP headquarters.

Şero the CHP cat died at the age of 20 on Sept. 28. The cat has become a symbol of the Turkish main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) as it has been living in the party headquarters since 2004.

The sad news was announced by Tarkan Özçetin, a cat hospital doctor in the capital Ankara.

“For 20 years, Şero, the CHP's cat, which has been a source of smiles in Turkish politics with its presence and has established a place in the hearts of all animal lovers, lost its life as of this morning after the treatment process in our hospital,” Özçetin said.

He added that the cat was under observation in the hospital due to age-related health problems.

The cat was buried in the garden of the party headquarters.

Şero was born in 2004 at the construction of the headquarters building and has been living there since then.

"We are very saddened to have lost our beloved cat Şero, who has been with us since the construction of our Headquarters building and who brought joy and energy to our party, unfortunately due to advanced age-related health problems," CHP leader Özgür Özel said.
