Colombian police seize 5 tons of cocaine headed for Turkey

Colombia has announced that it seized 5 tons of cocaine in a single operation, in the biggest drug bust since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic. Authorities have said that the drugs were headed for Turkey

Colombian authorities on June 9 announced that they have seized 5 tons of cocaine headed for Turkey.

The seized cocaine was worth about $265 million, Colombian Defense Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo said in a tweet.

The drug was discovered by sniffer dogs inside two containers in the port of Buenaventura in the southwest of the country.

The seized cocaine is said to be Columbia's biggest drug bust since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic.

According to Colombian media outlets, police seized about 180 tons of cocaine in the first five months of this year. This is up 8 percent from the same period of 2019.
