COVID-19 Delta variant 'spotted in Turkey's parliament'

The highly contagious COVID-19 Delta variant has been detected in two advisors in the Turkish Parliament, Anka News Agency reported on June 24. Advisors to the ruling alliance member MHP and the main opposition CHP, the two patients had been vaccinated prior to their infection, and have been put in isolation since their diagnoses.

Two advisers in the Turkish parliament contracted the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus, Anka News Agency reported on June 24. 

Counsel to the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and the ruling alliance member Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), the two advisors had reportedly been fully vaccinated prior to their infection.

The two advisors have been placed in isolation following their diagnoses that came despite their having received a second shot of vaccines in May. 

First identified in India, Delta is becoming the globally dominant version of the coronavirus, according to the World Health Organization.

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on June 23 that 134 cases of the Delta variant, which was first detected in India, were confirmed in 16 provinces. No cases of Delta Plus variant have been detected yet, he added.
