Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on March 8 celebrated Women’s Day with his usual emphasis on family. He deemed all stances that “sought to detach the woman from the family” dangerous.

Erdoğan attended the Women’s Day Program in Istanbul prepared by the Family and Social Services Ministry.

The family institution began with Adam and Eve, held the President, which protected societies from degeneration. “Unquestionably, the stronger families are, stronger individuals and societies are,” he added.

Erdoğan said, “We refuse all stances that put women against the family and build walls between them.”

The President also targeted some feminist organizations for “being allergic to the family.” He continued, “These groups have declared war against the family in the name of modernization and Westernization.”

Rehashing a common talking point when it comes to women and the LGBTI+, Erdoğan criticized feminist organizations for “not speaking against the abolishment of gender.”

“We have never interfered in anyone’s lifestyle, despite what dozens of propaganda says about us,” he claimed.

“It’s impossible to find even one example to the contrary in our 21-year tenure.”

Erdoğan concluded his speech with a reminder about the upcoming local elections on March 31.

“We expect the strong support of women most importantly in Istanbul, and all provinces on March 31,” he said.
