Expenses of Turkish national intelligence agency, statistics office not audited

Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MİT) and Statistical Institute (TÜİK) have not given information with regards to their activity reports and financial statements to the Court of Accounts which carries out audits on behalf of the parliament.

The Court of Accounts has revealed its inspection reports of state institutions for the year 2021.

But, the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) and Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) have not given any information with regards to their activity reports or financial statements. Therefore, no inspection was undertaken concerning the activities of these two institutions, according to reporting by the daily Sözcü.

In 2020, spending undertaken by MİT was not again the subject of any inspection by the Court of Accounts. In that year, MİT was allocated a budget of 2.1 billion liras, of which the institution spent 2.4 billion liras. A part of this spending was registered as being “confidential.” Some 495.3 million liras spent on “goods and services” and 170.6 million liras spent on “projects” were said to be confidential.

The Court of Accounts is the supreme governmental accounting body of Turkey responsible for the controlling of the public accounts and the auditing of the accountancy of the political parties, in accordance with the Constitution.
