Family of dead Turkish soldier question 'suspicious circumstances'

The family of a young soldier recently killed while doing his military service in the eastern province of Van have criticized the ruling of his death as a suicide, citing suspicious circumstances that would suggest otherwise.

21-year-old Ahmet Türeli was found seriously wounded while on duty last week and rushed to the hospital. Türeli had three G-3 infantry rifle bullets in his upper-left chest, and died in a hospital in Van earlier this week. He was buried in his village in the neighboring province of Muş in the district of Malazgirt.

Türeli's brother Fecri insists that his younger sibling did not kill himself.

“My brother was shot with three G-3 bullets in his upper left chest one centimeter away from his heart. They told us he committed suicide but I do not believe this. There was just a short time remaining before my brother's discharge, it was coming on the 31st of this month. We even bought his bus ticket. He didn't have any problems whatsoever. Why would he kill himself?” Fecri said, adding that his family intended to open an investigation into the matter.
