First Ph.D. granted in 'Kurdish Language and Literature'

Zafer Açar became the first person to be granted a Ph.D. in the Kurdish language and literature in Turkey. As a doctorate student at Bingöl University Açar conducted a field study in the southeastern city of Van where he sought to analyze the reasons why people choose to speak Kurdish.

The Department of Kurdish Language and Literature had its first doctorate student defend his thesis successfully at Bingöl University.

Ph.D. Zafer Açar conducted a field study in the southeastern city of Van where he sought to analyze the reasons why people choose to speak Kurdish.

Açar defended his thesis entitled "Behaviors that lead Kurdish speakers to speak in Kurdish" before a jury of academics from Bingöl University and Mardin Artuklu University.

Ph.D. students from the Kurdish Language and Literature and Zaza Language and Literature departments said that Açar's thesis had set an example for them.
