Foreign leaders ask me to talk to Erdoğan because he only listens to me, Trump says

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that leaders of foreign countries ask him to talk to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan since the Turkish President "only listens to me." "[The foreign leaders said] 'You're the only one that he'll listen to.' You know what, I don't like saying this publicly but it happens to be true. I get along with him and he listens," Trump added.

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that leaders of foreign countries ask him to talk to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan since the Turkish President "only listens to me."

Trump made the comments on Aug. 17 when he was slamming U.S. Democratic presidential contender Joe Biden, who drew ire in Turkey on Aug. 15 over his past comments on backing Turkish opposition.

Trump said that the U.S. is "winning wars and getting out," adding "I get along with a lot of these countries that, you know, in theory we could have war."

"They call me up when they need help with Turkey. The heads of countries called me last week and [said], 'Could you call Erdoğan?' I said 'Why?' [They said] 'You're the only one he'll listen to. He doesn't listen to us, you're the only one,'" Trump told Fox News, adding that it's not because he is the leader of the U.S.

"[The foreign leaders said] 'That's because of your personality. You're the only one that he'll listen to.' You know what, I don't like saying this publicly but it happens to be true. I get along with him and he listens," Trump added.

On withdrawing troops from Syria, Trump said "I said, 'Let them [Turkey] control their own border, we have enough borders to control.'"
