Forest fires erupt in three Turkish southern provinces, houses evacuated

Firefighters have been battling the forest fires that erupted in the southern provinces of Adana, Mersin and Hatay on Oct. 27. Authorities have said that teams have been trying to bring the fires under control and some houses have been evacuated to keep locals safe.

Forest fires erupted in Turkey's southern provinces of Adana, Mersin and Hatay on Oct. 27, with several houses in the areas having been evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Power lines caused the forest fire in Mersin's Anamur district, said state-run Anadolu Agency. Mersin Gov. Ali İhsan Su said that several water trucks and five helicopters have been dispatched to the area to bring the fire under control.

The cause of the forest fire in Hatay's İskenderun district has not been determined yet. Several firefighters have been trying to bring the fire under control in the forest area close to the Sarıseki neighborhood, Anadolu Agency said.

The Hatay Metropolitan Municipality released a statement on Oct. 27 saying that teams' efforts to bring the fire under control have been continuing. "We are putting a fight with all our units for the fire to be extinguished with the least damage," the municipality tweeted.

Another forest blaze hit the Kozan district of Adana on Oct. 27. The cause of this forest fire has not been determined either.
