Future Party has released a video depicting former finance minister and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's son-in-law Berat Albayrak as a meteor falling on Istanbul.

The video was released after Erdoğan said on March 10 that he wished "a rock as big as my son-in-law" falls on the opposition.

Erdoğan made the remarks in connection with the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP)'s criticism of Albayrak's economic policies.

The CHP has recently been pressing the state about the Central Bank's mass account deficits, mostly inflicted while Albayrak was in office before his scandalous Instagram resignation on Nov. 8, 2020.

Albayrak's adequacy for his position as finance minister often came under scrutiny, and he was often believed to be at his post thanks to his family ties to the president.

The Turkish economy observed an immediate and minor uptick following Albayrak's resignation, but the impact proved insufficient to counter the Central Bank's liabilities in the form of foreign currency debts, swap agreements and loans.

"They're obsessed about 'Where has this money gone?' All that money is in the people's Treasury and Central Bank. Nothing is missing. If there's anything missing, it's on your end," Erdoğan said on March 10.

"You wake up, you question 'son-in-law', you go to bed, you question 'son-in-law. I hope a rock as big as my son-in-law falls on your head," Erdoğan said.
