Hatay's deputy governor murders mother, brother in inheritance brawl

The deputy governor of southern province of Hatay on Aug. 11 shot and killed his mother and his brother in a brawl concerning inherited farming land. Tolga Polat was detained by police a few hours after he fled the scene. State-run Anadolu Agency reported on Aug. 12 that the deputy governor had been arrested by a court order.

Deputy governor of southern province of Hatay, Tolga Polat shot and killed his brother and his mother on Aug. 11.

The official was detained by police a few hours after he fled the scene of the murder. State-run Anadolu Agency reported that Polat was arrested by a court order on Aug. 12

Polat met with his family in his mother's Mediterranean Adana home the day before a trial for a lawsuit related to inherited fields.

While Polat shot his mother and brother after an argument about the lawsuit, his father, also in the house, was reported to be in good health.

Mother and son İkbal and Altuğ Polat died on the scene, and the father, Tolga Polat, was taken to the police station for interrogation after a health examination.
