HDP MP Beştaş injured in car accident in Turkey's Erzurum

Turkey's opposition HDP Group Deputy Chair Meral Danış Beştaş has been injured in a car accident in the eastern province of Erzurum's Karayazı district. She was later transferred to Ankara due to broken back.

Turkey's opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Group Deputy Chair Meral Danış Beştaş on April 13 evening was injured in a car accident on the road to the eastern province of Erzurum where she was going as part of her election campaign.

In the car accident that happened in Erzurum’s Karayazı district, Beştaş, her driver Vefa Uysal and an HDP executive were minorly injured. Medical teams reported to the scene after the accident.

Siirt lawmaker Beştaş was kept under observation in the Karayazı public hospital for a while. On early April 14, Beştaş was transferred to Ankara by plane due to broken back.

Beştaş have undergone an operation at Ankara İbni Sina Hospital on April 14.

56-year-old Meral Danış Beştaş was nominated as deputy candidate from Erzurum province under the Green Left Party (YSP) list for the May 14 parliamentary election.

The YSP became the leftist opposition HDP's backup party for the upcoming elections as the HDP faces the risk of closure.
