Hundreds of Kurdish migrants arrived on the shores of Greece's Kythira Island over the weekend, local media reported on Aug. 29, while the government attempted censorship on the topic to veil increasingly harsh conditions faced by incoming refugees.

Police reportedly urged the removal of footage of the incoming migrants, human rights defenders said, as Greece has adopted an increasingly harsh attitude against incoming migrants.

A group of 72 migrants arrived at Kythira Island on Aug. 29 afternoon, and they were transported to Leros Island to be processed at the Immigrant Admission and Identity Confirmation Center, the oppositional Efimerida ton Syntakton daily reported.

There were reportedly unsupervised children in the group of migrants, and a majority of the group were Kurdish, Greek Helsinki Monitor (GHM) said.

Some 37 more immigrants arrived in Kythira before Aug. 29 night, Efimerida ton Syntakton reported, adding that there were children aged from two to seven in the group.
