Hundreds of thousands attend megastar Tarkan’s concert in İzmir to mark Liberation Day

Turkish megastar Tarkan has held a concert in the western province of İzmir to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the city's liberation from occupation during the Turkish War of Independence. Hundreds of thousands attended the concert.

Popstar Tarkan on Sept. 9 held a concert in the western province of İzmir, as part of the celebrations for the city's 100th anniversary of liberation from occupation during the Turkish War of Indepedence. 

While hundreds of thousands of people attended the concert, many events were organized along the concert area starting in the morning.

Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, his wife Selvi Kılıçdaroğlu, İzmir Mayor from CHP Tunç Soyer and other deputies from CHP also attended the anniversary events.

Kılıçdaroğlu shared a selfie he took with his wife and grandchild during the concert and said, "Politics is up to a point. We have to have some fun."

Before the concert of Tarkan, Mayor Soyer thanked everyone who contributed to the preparation of the event.

Thanking Tarkan for taking the stage, Soyer said: "Tarkan is our megastar, our friend."

Soyer also shared a video of the crowd who gathered in the concert area.

Tarkan took the stage at 10 p.m. local time and sang for two hours. Due to the crowd, many people watched the concert from the screens set up in the area.

At the end of the concert, Tarkan said: “We have to love each other. We must unite. We must live in peace and harmony.”
