President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was seen ignoring an elderly woman's cry for help in the face of poverty in a video shared on TikTok.

Erdoğan was visiting the Harput district of the eastern province of Elazığ with Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu when a woman addressed him and told him that she is hungry.

"My son just returned from military service. I underwent surgery and I'm hungry. I'm hungry!" the woman is heard saying in the video.

"What did she say?" Erdoğan then asks the officials around him and keeps ignoring the woman.

The video was widely shared on social media, mainly by the critics of the government to point out that Erdoğan doesn't care about the increasing poverty in the country.

The incident is reminiscent of another that took place in October last year, when a shop owner told Erdoğan that he can't bring home the bread.

"This sounds like an exaggeration to me. Here, drink tea," Erdoğan told the shop owner complaining about poverty in the country in response.
