Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç has authorized an investigation into Yavuz Cengiz, the chief prosecutor serving in Zonguldak’s Çaycuma district, who was alleged to have had his lawyer girlfriend's ex-boyfriends detained.

Tunç granted the investigation permission in his capacity as the President of the Judges and Prosecutors Council (HKS) as the prosecutors in Turkey are not allowed to launch investigations on judicial officers without permission.

In a news report published by the daily Yeniçağ on Oct. 16, it was reported that Chief Prosecutor Cengiz detained five of his lawyer girlfriend's ex-boyfriends, including a lawyer and a soldier, claiming they had opened an Instagram account in her name and accusing them of "unlawfully obtaining personal data."

An examination was conducted on the phones and computers of those detained.

While the lawyer mentioned in the investigation was released within 24 hours, another staff member working at the lawyer's office was also detained and released.

In response to the allegations against him, the Chief Prosecutor stated, "I cannot make a statement on this matter as our Provincial Chief Prosecutor is closely monitoring the situation. They can provide further explanation."
