Ten students of Istanbul's Boğaziçi University were detained on Oct. 5 for protesting the appointed rector Naci İnci some nine months after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan appointed a party member as rector to the prestigious institution.

Erdoğan's initial appointment Melih Bulu was replaced by Naci İnci in August, again via presidential decree, once again breaching academic freedom.

Four students were initially detained on Oct. 5 for protesting İnci as part of the ongoing demonstrations at the school, and another six were later taken into custody for protesting their friends' detentions.

Seven of the 10 students who were detained were taken to the prosecutor's office on Oct. 6, the student collective said.

The prosecutors demanded that three of the students be arrested by a court order, while the remaining three be released under judicial control.

The court ordered for the arrest of two students, while it imposed judicial control measures for the remaining five students.
