Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has submitted 35 files regarding the irregularities done during the previous ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) period in the municipality to the Interior Ministry.

İmamoğlu, who is from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), previously said that the municipality's inspection board was working on some 40 corruption files regarding the transactions carried out when the municipality was run by the AKP.

While the process to submit the files to the judiciary had already begun, municipality officials filed complaints against a number of senior officials, including Infrastructure and Transport Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu, who was then the deputy general secretary of the municipality.

On Dec. 29, three inspectors asked for the municipality to submit the corruption files and the due date was set as Jan. 12 at the time. The municipality submitted 35 of the some 40 files on Jan. 12 in line with the request.

The inspectors will determine the action that will be taken after looking into the files.

According to the daily Sözcü, the municipality's inspection board started legal processes before the arrival of the inspectors, but couldn't obtain necessary permissions from the Istanbul Governor's Office.
