Istanbul's prestigious high school confirms student's Nazi salute at football match

Istanbul's prestigious Üsküdar American High school has confirmed that one of its students made a Nazi salute when he scored at a football game against Ulus Jewish High School. The school also said it conveyed its regret to Ulus Jewish High School and launched an investigation into the incident.

Istanbul's prestigious Üsküdar American High School on March 15 expressed regret over a racist act by one of its students in a football match with Ulus Jewish High School. 

The claim surfaced on social media that the Üsküdar American High School football team expressed their joy with “the Hitler salute” when they scored against Ulus Jewish High School in a football match in Istanbul on March 14. 

“As Üsküdar American Academy, which has raised generations since 1876, we are deeply saddened by the wrong gesture made by one of our players in a football match with Ulus Jewish School,” said a statement shared by the school on social media. 

“We would like to strongly emphasize that we stand against all kinds of discrimination as part of our institutional and educational philosophy,” it added.

Üsküdar American High School also said the school conveyed its regret to Ulus Jewish School and launched an investigation into the incident.

The Turkish Jewish Community also said that they were informed about the incident.

“Our school administration and the Turkish Jewish Community presidency are following the issue seriously with the Üsküdar American community and its boards of directors. We have full confidence that they will show the necessary sensitivity and we will continue to share the developments,” it said on Twitter.
