Turkey's Health Ministry released data April 7 that revealed Istanbul's highly urbanized neighborhoods to be higher in concentration of infected persons, while Health Minister Fahrettin Koca noted that some 60 percent of the cases are in the metropolis.
Concentration in Istanbul's European side decreases quickly as one moves away from the city and approaches the shore of Marmara Sea where summer houses are high in density, daily Hürriyet reported April 8.
Closer to central Istanbul, suburban and residential neighborhoods Esenyurt, Küçükçekmece, Avcılar, Bağcılar, Esenler, Bahçelievler, Bayrampaşa, Bakırköy, Zeytinburnu and Güngören seem appear gripped by the coronavirus.
A trade and tourism hub, the historical peninsula is also dense in concentration of infected individuals, as well as the central neighborhoods of Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu and Şişli.
Nearing the second Bosphorus bridge, density of infections decrease, remaining low in the north of the Anatolian side of the city.
Infections increase in number in the south of the Anatolian side of the city, the residential neighborhoods of Üsküdar, Kadıköy, Ümraniye, Ataşehir and Maltepe, all the way up to the Sabiha Gökçen Airport.
Ankara has near 1,000 patients
The Health Ministry revealed the capital Ankara homes nearly 1,000 persons infected with COVID-19.
Although the central neighborhoods of Kızılay, Cebeci, Mamak and Çankaya are higher in concentration, these patients were revealed to be in good health, resting at home.
Meanwhile in the Keçiören and Yenimahalle neighborhoods are both high in number of cases, and in the severity of the patients' conditions.
Western Izmir second highest in concentration after Istanbul
While the Aegean province of Izmir was revealed to have the second highest number of COVID-19 cases, the precise count was revealed to be near 1,500.
The most popular, coastal neighborhoods of Izmir, including Konak, are the highest in density.
While Izmir residents struggled with self isolation at the start of the coronavirus outbreak, increased precautions like forbidding walks and cycling on the shoreline seem to have decreased the number of people on the streets.
