Istanbul’s suburban neighborhoods of Bağcılar, Esenler and Bayrampaşa are the areas where coronavirus infections have concentrated in, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu said on broadcaster Fox TV April 8.

“We see high concentration in Bağcılar, Esenler, Bayrampaşa because these are highly residential areas,” İmamoğlu said, noting that their data comes from the Health Ministry.

The map that Health Minister Fahrettin Koca presented to the public April 7 revealed higher concentrations of infection in Istanbul’s residential areas, and lower concentrations in areas with less construction, İmamoğlu noted.

“The concentration of infections decreases as you enter rural areas. But the outbreak spread faster in areas with high urbanization, unfortunately,” İmamoğlu said.
