Turkey's Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader and the main opposition bloc Nation Alliance’s presidential candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu officially launched his election campaign on March 27 with a video titled “I promise the spring will come again.”

Kılıçdaroğlu has been using references to the coming of spring recently. For instance, he began to wore a special red and white bracelet which is popular in the Balkans as a symbol for welcoming spring during March.

Kılıçdaroğlu has been wearing the special red and white spring bracelet ("martiniçka") for a while and used it as a symbol in his campaign.

In the video, Kılıçdaroğlu said "I promise you...  A Turkey that does not hurt each other, that loves and respects those who are different as they are. Turkey that embraces, not distances. A Turkey with a full stomach and an abundant heart; a Turkey that loves to live.”

While he added that he promise a “Turkey that believes in science, art and the future,” Turkey’s prestigious Boğaziçi University that come to the agenda with the long-lasting protest among academics and students is shown in the background.

The video, which also includes the football tribunes that came to the fore with the "government resign" slogans and the concerts canceled in the summer of 2022, ends with Kılıçdaroğlu saying, "We are coming for a Turkey that can sing its most beautiful songs loudly and whose joy can be seen in the eyes of its children. I promise you that spring will come again. Mr. Kemal will not break his promise."

In a second video, Kılıçdaroğlu continued to use the spring theme to point out the growing economic crisis, poverty, and increasing immigration of young generations to Western countries.

Turkey’s presidential election will be held on May 14. Aside from Kılıçdaroğlu, ruling People’s Alliance’s candidate President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, far-right ATA Alliance’s candidate Sinan Oğan along with former CHP member and Homeland Party leader Muharrem İnce will be running for the office.
