Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, head of Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), stated that he would make the changes the public expects of him in an interview with İsmail Küçükkaya. Kılıçdaroğlu pointed to the Nov. 24 constitutional congress of the CHP.

“I will make changes. Pay attention to the constitutional congress right after the general congress. I will make the changes the public expects of me,” said Kılıçdaroğlu.

Kılıçdaroğlu also touched upon the general and presidential elections of May 14-28. He said, “Of course, there were mistakes on our part. However, we should really talk about how state resources were used, and which tricks and games were employed.”

Journalist Küçükkaya's tweet regarding his meeting with the CHP leader reads, "He said he will enact change at the general congress first, then at the constitutional congress at the end of November."

The general congress of the CHP will take place Nov. 4-5, where party representatives will vote on new leadership. Current leader Kılıçdaroğlu is in the running, alongside Özgür Özel who is campaigning for "the century of change," and left-wing candidate Örsan Öymen. The race will be between “status quoists” and “revisionists.”

Kılıçdaroğlu and the CHP's defeat in the presidential and general elections have increased the calls for change from the party ranks as well as CHP constituents.
