Medipol Hospital, founded by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, was included in a state support program after Koca became minister, the trade minister’s answer to a parliamentary question revealed.

Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat has answered the parliamentary question asked by the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Murat Emir regarding Medipol Hospital.

Bolat said Medipol Hospital was included in the Turquality Support Program, a state incentive program, for its potential in health tourism on Nov. 27, 2019.

Koca became health minister in July 2018.

The hospital received 5.9 million liras incentive as part of the program, the trade minister added.

In response, Emir said “(the ruling) AKP ministers, managers and bureaucrats find ways to generate profit for their companies as soon as they assume office. The first thing Fahrettin Koca did as soon as he became minister was to start looking for ways to support the hospital he founded.”

Emir noted in a social media post that it was “absolutely unacceptable” that a minister provided millions of liras to his own hospital by using his ministerial chair, and that “the details of this support should be immediately investigated by the relevant institutions.”
