The mediation process for the damages of 46 journalists who were terminated at Hürriyet daily has failed, and the Journalists' Union of Turkey (TGS) has filed a reinstatement lawsuit, they announced last week.

The 46 journalists found out they were terminated for being TGS members on Oct. 25 through notarized notices delivered to their homes or because they couldn't login to their email addresses on the paper's website. The terminated journalists weren't given any timeline for when they would be receiving their damages, and haven't received any payments yet.

TGS made a statement that they were determined to "get back what our colleagues deserve to the last penny."

“As of Dec. 17, our lawyers have filed a reinstatement lawsuit. Media owners should know that the Journalists' Union of Turkey will not look the other way in the face of this unlawful act," the Union announced.
