Living costs for one family equals nearly four minimum wages in Istanbul

Istanbul Municipality reported that the average cost of living for a family of four in Istanbul increased by 54.47 percent annually in February and reached 85,453 liras ($2344), about four times the minimum wage.

The average cost of living for a family of four in Istanbul reached 85,453 Turkish liras ($2344) in February, according to the Istanbul Planning Agency (İPA) affiliated with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

This was equivalent to 3.9 minimum wages (22,104 liras).

The average cost of living increased by 54.47 percent annually in February, and by 3.10 percent (2,573 liras) compared to last month.

Toilet paper prices increased by 95.01 percent compared to February of the previous year, biscuits by 86.05 percent, and tomatoes by 50.25 percent.

Turkey's official statistical authority, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), reported the annual inflation rate as 39.05 percent for February 2025, while the independent inflation group ENAG put the figure at 79.51 percent.
