Magnitude-4.7 earthquake hits eastern Turkey
An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 struck Turkey’s eastern province of Muş on Sept. 16. Authorities said that no damage has been reported so far.

A 4.7 magnitude earthquake jolted the eastern Turkish province of Muş, according to the country’s disaster and emergency body.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) said the quake occurred at 5.48 p.m. local time at a depth of 16.24 kilometers, with its epicenter being the Korkut district.
“After the 4.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Korkut district, it was learned that there was no negative report as of now,” AFAD said in its statement.
Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute also announced the magnitude of the earthquake as 4.7, but declared its depth as 5 kilometers.
The Muş governor's office also released a statement saying that there has been so far no reports of a “negative situation.” “Our police forces, AFAD officials and medical department are on alert and there is so far no problem,” the governor's office said on Twitter.
Turkey has a history of several powerful earthquakes. Over 40 people died and hundreds were injured after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck the eastern province of Elazığ on Jan. 24. The quake’s epicenter was Sivrice district.
