A Turkish nationalist named Hasan Tunçlar was arrested soon after broadcasting footage of himself physically and verbally abusing his minor daughter, the Family, Labor and Social Services Ministry said on March 16.

Social services teams moved immediately after Tunçlar released the live broadcast of his crime, the ministry said.

"Our child was taken into protective custody. Our ministry will keep up with the legal process," the ministry tweeted.

A hashtag in Turkish that read "Arrest Hasan Tunçlar" quickly started trending on Twitter following the perpetrator's broadcast, and he responded by dismissing the accusation.

"Now is that the way to treat me just because my hand went there without meaning to?" Tunçlar said.

Violent and sexual crimes against women and children in Turkey are often viewed as a result of government policy that doesn't enforce prosecution of said violations.

Tunçlar was seen in photos to be displaying the hand gesture of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), posing in front of a Turkish flag and with a firearm and a large blade.
