Men killed at least 33 women in Turkey in February, news portal Bianet reported on March 5 from their regular news surveillance data.

At least another 14 women's deaths were reported as suspicious in February, the news portal added.

Meanwhile, at least 57 men were reported to assault women in February, and at least one man killed a child, Bianet added.

Four children reported being sexually abused by a man, while nine women reported a man's harassment.

Men also forced at least 104 women into sex work, Bianet reported.

Men's violent crimes against women in Turkey often go unpunished by the courts, and the Turkish judiciary has displayed its reluctance to prosecute violence against women time and time again.

A recent haunting example of the judiciary's failure to prosecute was with Ümitcan Uygun, the main suspect in the murder of 21-year-old Aleyna Çakır.

Uygun remained free for months before the prosecutor issued an arrest warrant on drug charges that were completely irrelevant to Çakır's murder.

After months of delay, Uygun's DNA matched the only evidence found on Çakır at the time of her death, a fact that could have been discovered months earlier if the prosecutor hadn't overlooked footage of Uygun actually assaulting Çakır that he posted on social media.
