İYİ (Good) Party leader Meral Akşener has said that her party will grow stronger and will attract support from at least 18 percent of voters.

“According to the public opinion surveys confirmed by almost all research companies, İYİ Party is step-by-step marching towards the rulership both in the local- and parliamentary-arena. I strongly believe that our party, which is seen to be at the 15-16 percent level now, will have an 18 percent support level by July. After that, everything will go in rapid succession,” she said on May 12 in a videoconference with her party's officials.

Akşener's comments came as a recent poll confirmed that İYİ Party has been recently climbing in popularity.

If an election were to be held today, İYİ Party would receive 15.8 percent of the votes, according to the survey that polling company Istanbul Economic Research conducted in May.

The same survey conducted in April had found a support level of 15.3 percent for İYİ Party.

Before founding İYİ Party in 2017, Akşener used to be a lawmaker from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). She was expelled from the MHP on Sept. 8, 2016 for organizing an emergency convention that aimed to challenge the leadership of long-standing Bahçeli.

Once she announced the formation of the İYİ Party on Oct. 25, 2017, several other MHP members resigned from the party and joined İYİ Party.
